Snot City
We got the baby in daycare, yea!!! However, it comes with many mixed emotions. She is #3, and likely the last kid. We were so lucky to be able to keep the first two home until preschool. When they were little, I had a near panic attack after interviewing nannies. For my own sanity, we made it work to keep them home. They were pandemic toddlers, and we limped through stay-at-home dad and irregular mom hours to patch work childcare. Then they did an outdoor preschool when they were 3 and 4.
Little miss is here 6 years later, and I feel a bit different now. As in “I need some kid free time, now!”. She has been loved and snuggled on for the last year, but I think I can say it will be good for all of us to have our own time and space. We are grateful to finally have come off the waitlist at an amazing place. It is still hard, but so is everything about motherhood. Each choice comes with guilt, the shoulda woulda couldas…. It is no wonder we are burnt out mamas!
But no kidding, she has been in for all of 3 days, and we are already in snot city. OMG what do these kids do, just fingerpaint boogers all over each other?
3 nights of crappy sleep for everyone. Not to mention the anticipatory fear of it spreading to the big kids and mom and dad. Buckle up.
It is a good thing to get her around other kids and give us a bit of a breather, but I am not looking forward to the winter.
Just know that whatever you are doing for childcare – staying home or dropping them off – You Do You.
